Find Ancestors

I'm trying to find information on a Walter Ward born 9/7/1877 (registered as Arthur Walter Fielding), Hornsey, registration district Edmonton, and his parents (especially his father). His birth certificate shows his mother as Helena Fielding but no entry for his father, so I've assumed he was illegitimate. Later in life (prior to 1891) he changed his surname to Ward and used his middle name of Walter instead of Arthur. His marriage certifcate of 1900 shows his father as Walter Ward (deceased). On the 1881 census Helena Fielding is shown living with her mother & brother in Islington, were she was born and brought up. There is also a child named Matthew who fits all the correct information for Arthur Walter Fielding except for the name (age, place of birth, surname) Looking at the entry more closely it could possibly have been transcribed incorrectly. He and his mother appear living together on the 1891 census as Elenor Ward 37 (widow) & Walter Ward 14 (son). I cannot however find a marriage index reference for an appropriate Walter Ward or any version of 'Helena Fielding' between 1877 & 1891. If anyone can shed any further light on this mystery it would be a great help. Thanks Laurie Jonas
