Trying to find Deverson

I need help to sort out the Deversons of Woodnesborough and Sandwich. Thank you to the kind person, name escapes me, who helped me with the 1822 Christening of my Great grandfather's first wife Frances Elizabeth Deverson. I would like to have more of her ancestors on my tree although she died young and is not a blood relative. My G grandfather mentions in his memoirs 'While living with my Uncle Fred, (Frederick McRae Duncan, Chemist of Sandwich) I had pleasing instruction in brewing from my Uncle J. Deverson, who had great trust in my use of the Thermometer - on 'Washing Days!' Thus I may add Brewing to my other experiences!' This was between December 1837 and September 1839 when he left to begin his medical training. In 1871 G grandfather and his second wife had Peter Monti aged 20 living with them. He was described as 'cousin'. In 1846 Peter's father, also Peter, had married Amelia Deverson. Now I ask myself, was he claiming the relationship because of his marriage to Frances Deverson or were they really related from further back. On the old IGI on microfiche, a copy of which I have before me, there is an entry as follows:- Thomas Deverson - relative Emily H Duncan born about 1808 Sandwich. John Hales Duncan was one of G grandfather's uncles. I think I have gone on long enough, If anyone can help I will be very grateful.

Dear Susan
Re-your message about Deversons.
I have rescently started this 'quest' and the names appearing in your 'trying to find' are very familiar.
I have had so much info suddenly thrown at me I am not to sure what is what.
My G.G.G.grandfather I think was George Deverson born 1783 Sandwich - I believe next was Frederick - then Charles born 1841 my great grandfather (carpenter in Sandwich - the model of the first Ramsgate Lifeboat now in the Ramsgate Maritime Museum 'The Bradford' was made by him) this is fact. My grand father was a shoe maker in Ramsgate.
I have yet to enter all this info on to my tree but hope to get this done soon -
There is a LOT more piled up to sort out - quite exciting stuff.
There is a John Born Sandwich 1809 died 1897
Amelia is familiar. some Thomas's - so it goes on - I have some work to do!!!!!!!!!
Hopefully will be in touch soon.
Regards Keith Deverson

I have so far sorted the following, some 2+2=6, some fact:
June 6th 1822
Joseph Alexander Smith and Sarah Duncan marry, witness Mary Ann Deverson. (copy of church record)
July 7th 1822
Frances Elizabeth Deverson christened, mother Elizabeth Deverson. (familysearch)
March 23rd 1823
Henry Montague Duncan Smith born, christened July 8th 1823 ( Ggrandfather's memoirs & IGI)
Feb 23rd 1826
Amelia Deverson christened. Father -Thomas Deverson, mother -Mary Anne (familysearch)
1846
Amelia Deverson and Peter Monti marry (GRO)
1850
Peter Monti Junior born (GRO)
Jan 28th 1851
Henry Montague Duncan Smith and Frances Elizabeth Deverson marry, witness P. Monti (Certificate)
Dec 18th 1855
Death of Frances Elizabeth Smith. (Certificate)

I have also found on familysearch:
Family Group Record
Husband - Thomas Deverson born about 1807 died before 1855
Wife - Mary Ann Duncan born about 1810 both of Sandwich
No children
This is the 2+2=6
I think it likely it was researched by Emily H Duncan, a descendant of one of Ggrandfather's uncles, John Hales Duncan. When I started my research there was only IGI on microfiche at the Mormon Church and I got excited by an entry placed by a member:
Deverson Thomas - relative Emily H Duncan - born about 1808 Sandwich.
I asked about it and was told it was too long ago to be able to get in touch with her so I suppose she did it in the dark and difficult days. Church records are essential to sort this out but in my mind it is so.
On the 1841 census their ages are given as Thomas 45, Mary 40 and Amelia 16.
Many thanks to the kind souls who have helped me with information and pointed me in the right direction. Any constructive comments will be gratefully accepted.

Hello, would really appreciate being part of this little loop. My Grandmother's maiden name was Deverson, and I have Woodnesboro Deverson's (and surrounding area) in my tree - starting with William born around 1809. When I was in England a few years ago, I went to Canterbury Cathedral archives and have a spreadsheet of Deverson info that I found there (not much, but may be useful to someone).

We're not allowed to post email addresses here, but you can click on my name to the left, and send me a personal email address, which I can respond to with my contact details.

Would love to hear from you.
