Can't seem to find any one that looks like him under Birkett in 1911.
Maybe someone else will have better luck.

Oooh no, I hope not!!
He was my Grandads' brother and we only recently found out that he'd died young. Spent ages trawling for his death...Jennifer superbly found his Mothers' MI..with him mentioned on it...dont want to think he ran away:0(((

Could he have travelled under a different name then? Am I being too naive here?

Germaine and Margaret,
I was hoping that was him and the 10 years should have been 16, but lookig back through 1901 census, there is a James Checkett born 1897 in Birmingham :0(((...a cousin...but not my important one.
Mine had the middle name of Birkett, his mothers maiden name...could he have used that?

Jane

Jane Report 27 Aug 2007 20:07

Wow,
I turned my back for a few minutes!!
Jennifer, thank you for the lead in the first place xx
Germaine, I had a lovely lady Ceri last night look through all Checketts who left England and the only James she found was the 1907 from Liverpool to Portland, but he was aged 10. Mine would have been 16 in 1907. Possible mistranscription with age?
I'm clutching straws with that!!
His sister Catherine shows up on a few journeys, but as for James :0((

Wayne...that is his father Benjamin age 12 with his parents Benjamin and Catherine. He stayed here and died in Lancs 1950.
Many thanks all.

Oh yes Margaret a bit too young. Sorry about that.
Just an unusual name both from England.
Unless there as been a big mistake.
It looks like the one on find my past is the one I found on the census too as the ages match.

The only problem there, Germaine, is that his age is given as 14 in 1911. On the MI he was 21 in 1912.

On Ancestry there is a James Checkett this could be him but I don't have access to USA sites.
He could have gone that way to Canada.

Germaine Report 27 Aug 2007 19:46

Hi Jane.If you go to this site and search the 1911 census I think I have found him.
It says he went out there in1907.
If you go to the main page look at the1911 census. Then when you into it, go to split view then you should be able to read the image.
Oh by the way look in Ontario.

Has anyone access to Canada death records please?
What I know;
James Birkett Checkett was born apr 1891 to Mary and Benjamin Checkett in Lancaster. Last found on 1901 census aged 9 with parents in Alfred Street, Lancaster.
On his mothers monumental inscription it has added James Birkett Checkett aged 21 years accidently killed in Canada 7th Nov 1912.
Can find no trace of him going to Canada.
Is anyone able to find his death or passage for meVery grateful for any ideas, Jane
