The Edward SHONK referred to in the 1901 Census above is linked to my family. The son Edward William SHONK married a Florence MORTON on 09May1915 at St Luke's Church, Tranmere, Birkenhead.

Florence MORTON was born in Birkenhead (as was I). She was my great aunt. I have extensive photgraphs and records of the family and of Ted SHONK from WW1, through his sport and marriage and family.

What I have been told is that this SHONK family (and probably others in London, had a VERY hard time during WW1 as they were largely blonde and were thought, with such an unusual surname, to be of German origin.

If you are related and are interest please get in touch.

An Edward Shonk married Mar 1893 West Ham, there is no Sarah J on that page so I looked for Sarahs married Mar 1893 West Ham.

There are 5 Sarah Janes so I looked them up on the 1891 census.

Coincidentally there is a Sarah Jane Harris c1869 West Ham living in Plaistow. Another coincidence is that she is living next door to a family called Shonk.

The head of the family is Mary E Shonk c1836 who on the 1871 census has a son called Edward.

My Great grandfather Edward was reputed to have married twice, however, on the marriage certificate to my Great Grandmother he is stipulated as being a batchelor. My mother says she is certain it was true as she met, many years ago, some of my Grandfather's half brothers. I am keen to find if this is true, so if you know of any descendants of Edward Shonk, Plaistow, London, 1863 - 1951, please contact me.

Regards,

paul
