Thank you everybody - I have William's marriage certificate which states that his father was John Ingram? This is a bit of a mystery. I will keep searching.

Hi Janet. I am not connected but had a look for you. I see you have been given the marriage details, and with the Father's names from that a better search can be made.

I have found what I think may be his birth.
1843. Oct/Dec Qtr. registered in Alderbury. Wilts. vol 8. 244.

If you first get the marriage cert, you can then apply for birth certificate with the proviso that the Father's name matches. If not, then you will not be charged or sent a wrong copy.

I notice that he is shown on the 1861 census at 17, Boarder. born Stapleford.
This ties in with 1843.
1871 shows 26
1881 shows 34
1891 shows 45. so he is not very consistant with his age.

Hopefully, with his parents then a further search can be made.

If you order the marr cert it should give the fathers names

I am trying to find out any information on William Kilford, Born c1847, Stapleford, Wiltshire, died Dec 1898. He was my great-grandfather, married to Fanny Dowdell born 1846, Fisherton Delamere, Wiltshire. I cannot find out anything about his parentage - any help would be appreciated.
