Replying to this thread as I am interested in children adopted in Lewisham and would love to know if you've found any more. In 1944 there weren't many organisations helping single mothers in Lewisham as the bombing had made Lewisham an unsafe place for mother and baby homes etc.

So he was born 1944?

Do you know his birth name? If you do then yes he will of had his birth registered. Probably under his Mothers Surname.

Once adopted,he will have an adoption cert (looks the same as a birth cert)

If you go to this link,it shows you the correct procedure for looking for adoptees.

I am trying to find the son my mother adopted out. All I know is that in 1978 he would have been about 34. She left army because she was pregnant, and returned to London from overseas. I have no idea where to go from here - would there be a birth cert for this child with her name on it, or would this have been changed after he was adopted?
I think she may have had assistance from either the Salvation Army, a Miss Pond, who was a midwife in Lewisham/Dulwich or perhaps the Queen Alexandra's Nursing Corps.
Any suggestions??
