I can't find him in the 1891 for love nor money, as adopted son or otherwise.

In 1901, we have

Name: Sidney Arthur Edwards
Age in 1901: 10
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1891
Relation: Adopted Son
Gender: Male
Where born: Abertillery, Monmouthshire, Wales
Civil Parish: Mynyddislwyn
Ecclesiastical parish: Penmain
County/Island: Monmouthshire
Country: Wales
Registration district: Newport (Monmouthshire)
Sub-registration district: Mynyddislwyn
ED, institution, or vessel: 11
Household schedule number: 16

Household Members: Name Age
Beatrice Edwards 17
Catherine Edwards 49
Edward Edwards 64
Sidney Arthur Edwards 10

Oh, fine, I'd confused myself -- in 1891:

Name: Sidney Edwards
Age: 9/12
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1890
Relation: Son
Father's Name: Edward
Mother's Name: Catherine
Gender: Male
Where born: Mynyddislwyn, Monmouthshire, Wales
Civil Parish: Mynyddyslwyn
Ecclesiastical parish: Mynyddyslwyn
Town: Claurpluyf
County/Island: Monmouthshire
Country: Wales
Registration district: Newport
Sub-registration district: Mynyddyslwyn

Household Members: Name Age
Anne E Edwards 16
Beatrice Edwards 7
Catherine Edwards 39
Edward Edwards 55
Sidney Edwards 9/12
Wyndham Edwards 12

One thing I'd note is the unusual spelling of Sidney in both cases.

Which leads me to consider:

Name: Sidney Arthur Lewis
Year of Registration: 1890
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Newport M
County: Glamorgan, Gwent, Monmouthshire
Volume: 11a
Page: 227

If that one was born in June/July, he'd have been just about 9/12 yrs old at the 1891 census. And it's in the right registration district. About the best and just about the only match in the birth index. Might be worth a check!

There sure were a whole bunch o' Lewis-s in Mynyddyslwyn in 1891 ... and numerous Sidney Lewis-s in Wales, including one whose father is Arthur ...

iIF HE WAS WAS ADOPTED SON HIS NAME COULD HAVE BEEN CHANGED AND ADOPTION RECORDS WERE VASTLY DIFFERENT THEN, HE MAY HAVE BEEN ARTHUS SYDNEY BUT WITH A DIFFERENT SURNAME WHAT DO YOU THINK

Would this not really be better pursued in the thread where the work was being done?

I assume my Sidney Arthur Lewis suggestion was not useful ...

I can't think of anything that good eyes can do with this one. If he wasn't born Edwards, he was born and registered as something else. And there's be pretty much no way of knowing what.

Do you know Edward Edwards's wife's surname? It's possible that Sidney came from her family ...

What is it that you think someone might be able to find?

So where did the thread in Records Office get to? I can't find it. And I don't think it's fair to people here if they are duplicating work that was done in that thread.
