Meanwhile -- it looks like that's the wrong surname anyhow!
The household is Barnard in 1871, but in 1861:
Name: Emmanuel Barnett Age: 3 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1858 Relation: Grandson Mother's Name: Elizabeth Gender: Male Where born: Warrington, Northamptonshire, England Civil Parish: Elton Ecclesiastical parish: Ely County/Island: Huntingdonshire Country: England Registration district: Oundle Sub-registration district: Fotheringhay ED, institution, or vessel: 14 Household schedule number: 53
Household Members: Name Age Elizabeth Barnett 22 Emmanuel Barnett 3 John Barnett 23 Mary Barnett 59 William Barnett 61
Same household composition as in 1871:
Eliza Ann Barnard 11 months Elizabeth Barnard 32 Emmanuel Barnard 13 Hannah Barnard 29 Jesse Barnard 2 Jno Hy Barnard 9 Mary Barnard 69 William Barnard 71
Emmanuel's birth:
Name: Emanuel Barnett Year of Registration: 1857 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Oundle County: Huntingdonshire, Northamptonshire Volume: 3b Page: 206
Barnard is what the original says in 1871, but it seems to be the one in error.
In 1851, the household is:
Butterworth Barnett 5 Elizabeth Barnett 12 Frances Barnett 19 Helena Barnett 21 John Barnett 13 Mary Barnett 48 William Barnett 50 William Barnett 17
Emmanuel appears to be the son of Elizabeth, who was unmarried in all censuses.
This would be Emmanuel's marriage:
Name: Emmanuel Barnett + Margaret Hilliard Year of Registration: 1884 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Oundle County: Huntingdonshire, Northamptonshire Volume: 3b Page: 383
and if, as is likely, it doesn't give a father's name, that is unfortunately probably a dead end.
(The 1871 Barnard household is next door to a Hilliard household, although Margaret isn't in it.)
But in 1891, Emmanuel is Barnard again:
Name: Emmanuel Barnard Age: 33 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1858 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Margaret Gender: Male Where born: Elton, Huntingdonshire, England Civil Parish: Ringstead Ecclesiastical parish: Ringstead Town: Ringstead County/Island: Northamptonshire Country: England Registration district: Thrapston Sub-registration district: Raunds ED, institution, or vessel: 2
Household Members: Name Age Arthur F Barnard 2 Emmanuel Barnard 33 Jesse Barnard 5 Kate Barnard 7/12 Margaret Barnard 29 Albert E Hilliard 12
This looks to be Kate's birth:
Name: Catherine Ellen Barnard Year of Registration: 1886 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Thrapston County: Huntingdonshire, Northamptonshire Volume: 3b Page: 197
... although ... right place, but date is off, per 1891 census.
Oh, for pity's sake. Her age is 7 MOs on the original, not 7 1/2.
So this is her birth:
Name: Kate Barnard Year of Registration: 1890 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Oundle County: Huntingdonshire, Northamptonshire Volume: 3b Page: 217
Now, if Jeffrey ever revisits his thread, we can maybe find out what it was that he wanted to know!
If you're reading, Jeffrey -- my Barnards are from Wiltshire possibly via Bristol and then to Kent and thence back to Wiltshire, over the course of the 19th century, and so not related. But I've seen a household of Barnards (that could be related to mine) - and the same thing with other Barnard households - called "Barnett" in a census, so this name-switching doesn't surprise me.

Allow me. ;)
I found the post when I searched Trying to Find using the surname filter "Barnard", so I'll guess that's it!
This mishmash of old and new systems at this website is just really unacceptable.
People go to "trying to find (surname)" from their personal surnames lists and compose a post, and the surname is pre-entered on their post. Then when it's posted, it appears in Trying to Find with no surname attached.
Conversely, using a surname filter and then posting a Trying to Find message doesn't result in the post appearing in the list when the surname filter is used ...
Just more really bad design and service. Maybe someone who can help will see this post now ...
