Hi if there is anyone in Grimsby/ Hull who could check a few records of local workhouses I'd really appreciate it.

Trying hard to find him!

Yeah that's my thoughts too - but the problem is I've looked everywhere for him and I can't see anything at all...it's driving me mad I think!

Thanks for your help

yeah he was still alive - and she remarried in a different part of the country! He wouldn't have know being deaf and blind I suppose!

Naomi

Naomi Report 25 Oct 2007 00:05

yeah that's the last we see of Geo. (George) Grainger, then he disappears off the planet!

Neil

Neil Report 25 Oct 2007 00:04

Hmmm..so he was still alive - my death was a guess based upon age & locality.

Naomi

Naomi Report 25 Oct 2007 00:02

Well we know he was born in 1860 Yorks. and he was a fisherman registered deaf and blind!!
In 1881 he was dwelling 15 Auboro St Scarborough, York, England.
In 1901 at 182 Rutland Street Grimsby. No mention of the Stephen in any of our previous documents I'm afraid.

Martha had 6 children before she even met George Morgan(s), then she had another 10! If he was deaf and blind and they had 6 children, they wouldn't have had any money and we are wondering if that's why she left him for a mayor in Wales!?

Any ideas?

1901 census is on ancestry by the look of it but i can't be sure as i don't have access:

1901 England Census
Name: Martha Grainger
Spouse: Geo
Birth: abt 1872 - city
Residence: 1901 - township, city, Lincolnshire, England

Neil

Neil Report 24 Oct 2007 23:51

Also - are you sure George is on the 1901 census? The reason i ask is that i can see this:

Deaths Dec 1900 (>99%)
Grainger George Stephen 31 Hull 9d 163

Hull is not very far from Grimsby!

aaahh! thanks for this wonder why she's not on the normal 1891 cenus then.

Thankyou

Neil

In that case she is on the 1891 census as Martha Grainger as the Census was taken on 5th April (after the Marriage Registration Period). So from ancestry (sorry i dont have acess):

Match quality: 5 out of 5 1891 Wales Census
Census

Name: Martha Grainger
Spouse: George
Birth: abt 1872 - city, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Residence: 1891 - township, city, Pembrokeshire, Wales

Yes - that's the first husband - who we have never been about to find a death cert for!!!

They lived in Grimsby for 1901 census, but the house was empty in 1902. She then remarried George Morgans on 15th oct 1904 and we can'r find George Grainger's death anywhere.

Any help on this death cert would solve a very big family search for him!!!

Grainger George Pembroke 11a 1462
Hackett Martha Pembroke 11a 1462
Trinder William Henry Pembroke 11a 1462

Hi Glitter Baby - yes that's her. No luck with her for 1891? She's the dark horse of the family and has lots of mystery around her I'm trying to solve!
