Where did you get the record from, the IGI?

The IGI is well known for Errors so maybe you would be better off trying the local records office and seeing what they can find..

hi kathleen
on igi it says john as father of huge maloy that record was submitted by someone. his birth could have been before the registation so you would not get a cert for him other then finding him in parish register

Looked on findmypast couldn't find a birth registration for Hugh it is possible he wasn't registered as it wasn't compulsory to register births before 1875

Checked on FreeBMD.

The only Hugh Maloy listed there between 1837 & 1850 was b. 1847 Manchester.

There are other Maloys listed for Co Durham, but no Hugh.

Remember FreeBMD has a few gaps, especially where scans or microfilm are unreadable.

Hugh does appear in both the 1851 & 1861 Census for Gateshead, DoB stated as approx 1839 in Gateshead.
