Firstly, it would appear that the only Swaithes families in 1871 were in Herefordshire. And I guess it is possible that Swaithes was the father's name, and not Susan's. Howerever, this wedding in Paddington is the right area and time to be a possible.

Marriages Mar 1888 (96%)

JERMEY Elizabeth Harriet Paddington 1a 90

Just done that search - no results - but it was very quick so wondering if it actually worked!

Have searched using Swaithes as middle name, 1860 - 1870, Herefordshire - no results.

You could try searching year by year for the whole country - searches might take a while though.

On FreeBMD if you type an * then a space then the second name, it will bring up entries with the second name (just tried it with * John, surname Smith, and it brings up William John, Henry John, etc.

Have searched for all Swaithes births from 1860 to 1870 - no Susan first or second name.

These are the females:
Births Mar 1861 (>99%)
SWAITHES Ann Bromyard 6a 480

Births Dec 1863 (>99%)
SWAITHES Hannah Bromyard 6a 497

Births Dec 1866 (>99%)
Swaithes Eliza Bromyard 6a 501

Maybe you could check these out on the 1871 census?

I have an extremely elusive Susan Swaithes bc1865 who gave birth to Ernest Swaithes in 1887, aged 22 in Kensington, London. She gave him up for adoption (and I have found his adoptive family).
I am seeking the blood line, but despite innumerable searches, including employing genealogists noone has been able to find a single Susan Swaithes birth, death or marriage record.
Someone has now suggested perhaps she used her middle name... does anyone have the facility to search on middle names? Either with Susan as a middle name, or even with Swaithes as a middle name?
We have no idea where she came from, whether she just came to London for work (she worked in a hotel for 15mths prior to the birth according to her poor relief application). I just can't believe we can't find any trace of a birth OR a death... or a marriage.

Any ideas from anyone?
