Kath,

In 1851 Christian is down as being born in Perth. I really think you've found what you were looking for. Alexander has either died or is not at home.

Years of birth are never accurate on the census details. Your 1871 one seems to have been mistranscribed. Births were often rounded up or down so you need to allow for a couple of years either way.

Scotlandwell is not that far from Perth. The water from the well there was used to cure all manner of diseases so perhaps they moved to be near that.

Good luck

Liz

Hi again Alviegal,
Thank you once again. So if Catherine's birth was 1833, then these are her siblings. Trouble is all the census results above, point her to being born in 1835/1837. I just don't know what to think at this moment in time.
Please, please keep looking, I really appreciate your help.
Regards
Kath

Hi Kate,
I will look on Scotlands people at her death. I have her death cert but it doesn't say anything like that on it so I never thought to look at it again online.
Thank you very much for your help, it's much appreciated. Believe me, I need all the help I can get and everyone has been fantastic tonight.

Regards
Kath

Hi Kath, I hope you dont mind, but i had a look at Catherine Ritchies dth certificate on Scotlands people, I could be wrong but I thought she was either 45 or 46 when she died in 1883, also if you look in the margin there is a note abot the register of corrected entries, i cant check as ive no credits left, but it might give you a wee bit more information. Scotlands people doesnt have every bdm listed

Hi Glitter baby,
This looks very like her in 1841 doesn't it.
I just can't understand why her birth is not coming up on Scotlands people.
Do you have access to BMD's in Scotland? ( I am not asking you to spend your money) I mean if you are a member of a site where you may be able to find the birth etc.

Many, Many thanks

Hi Alviegal,
I found this on the IGI but I dismissed it as it was about 3 years earlier than the certs state for her.
It is a problem pinning the correct one down as on her marriage cert in 1857 she was 21,
1861 census says she was 24
1871 Census says she was 24
1881 Census says she was 43
She died in 1883 and her death cert says she was 40
So as you can see, I am just totally bamboozled.
Thank you for that information, I am definately considering that one as a very possible.
If you find anything else I would really appreciate your input.

Many, Many thanks
Kath

Hi Glitter baby,
Yes, this is her in 1861 after she married Robert Ritchie in 1857.
As you can see, she must have been born 1836/1837
but I just cannot find her birth to get her cert.

Kath Report 26 Oct 2007 20:43

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me with my brickwall.
My Grt Grt Grandmother, CATHERINE MCKENZIE, married ROBERT RITCHIE, in 1857 in Markinch Fife Scotland.
On the marriage cert it states that the brides parents were
ALEX MCKENZIE- LABOURER- FATHER
CHRISTINA/CHRISTIAN( ANGUS - MOTHER.
I am trying to find Alex & Christina/Christian's marriage so I can find their daughter, (Catherine's) birth.
I have spent many hours & lots of money on Scotlands People but cannot find her birth.
I have found one marriage for Alex & Christina in 1824 St.Pauls, Perth but I am not 100% sure it is the correct one.
On Catherine's marriage cert it says she was 21 in 1857 so that would make her birth around 1836. It also says her place of residence at that time was Scotland Wells-Port Moak which I think is in Kinross. She was a servant then so she could have been away from home. I have trawled the Census' but unable to pinpoint her or Alex & Christina/Christian together.
Can anyone help please? I am desperate as I can go no further until I find these details.

Many thanks in advance for any help or advice
Kath
