Maypole Dairy?

Does anyone have any information on the Maypole Dairy Co Ltd in Grimsby. My great grandfather Robert Francis Puncheon worked there and I have his gold watch given by the dairy on his retirement after 40 years service.

I have been unable yet to trace anything about him apart from his marriage Annie Kemp as his Marriage cert has yet to arrive and I am hoping it gives me a clue to where he came from, although he may have been from the North East circa 1876.

Any info would be gratfully received.

Thanks Glitter baby, I have had the same problem as nothing is on the census for them. I suppose I will just have to wait for the Marriage Cert
Thanks for trying

Have a google for Maypole Dairy, Grimsby - some interesting hits come up. Though to be honest, I cant see that will help in your search. At least its a lovely unusual name.

Have you got ancestry? If not have a look for that name on the free three day trial at the mo:

Hello Manch,
I cant tell you anything about your great grandfather, but I do remember the Maypole Dairy shop it was on Freeman Street Grimsby,it was a lovely place,I remember they had a box with a light under it to test if the eggs were fresh,as a child it amused me no end,
It closed down many years ago sad to say.

Sheila
Thanks for your reply, it is great to hear from someone who remembers the shop. Which end of Freeman Street was it, can you remember?

Hi Manch, yes I do rememberI.Do you know Freeman St I wonder,
Well it was in between Strand St and Kent St, At a guess I would say it was about number 12 or 13 Freeman St, I dont know which side the numbers start..I beleive the Scotch Wool shop was next door to it,ahh lovely memories.
Old Freeman St is now just a shadow of its old self, with shops boarded, and broken down.
Such a pity it used to be the hub of the town.

Sheila
