Ooooo Jean, tell me more about the other Edward, where did you find out that info from.

I should have said I do have all the census info, also about Richard and family. Richard had a daughter Charlotte who married a chap, surname Linton. She was an informant on a death cert of one of Edward and Emilys children, so I know theres a connection. I think Richard and Ann are probably my Edwards parents but haven't found a baptism yet.Richard and Edward shared the same occupations, wheelwright or coachbuilder.

Hi again.....

Don't know if it is of any help but I have just come across..........

1841 census, 21 Cardigan Street, Lambeth

Richard Bettison /age 65 / COACH BUILDER
Ann Bettison / age 60
George Bettison age 20 / smith

This is in the same district as Edward, Emily and their family, and the trade is the same .

I think it possible, that the "other" Edward Bettison, may have been transported to Van Deimans Land in Dec 1847 on board the Fairlie .

Hope this is helpful

Hi Jeannie

Yes thats the family. There is also another Edward Bettison and family in 1841(can't find them in 1851) in Middlesex, which I think is the Edward to Solomon and Cecilia. They also have a daughter Celia. This Edward is a tailor. I have the death cert of the older Celia and she is listed as a tailors widow.
There is possibily a connection between the two Bettison families, just got to find it.

Hi There......

Is this your family on the 1861 census ?

East Street, Lambeth

Edward Bettison/ head / age 47 / Coach Smith
Emily A / wife / age 45
Maria / daughter
CECELIA / daughter / age 4
William / son / age 15

If so, it would be a good bet, that Soloman and Cecelia, were his parents....naming a daughter after your mum was normal practice...There were not many Edward Bettison"s at all

Regards

Jeannie

I am trying to find the baptism of an Edward Bettison c 1812ish, according to census. In all census but one, Lambeth is put as his birthplace. In the odd one out, its put as Maidstone Kent. There may be a possible link to Kent, through a Richard Bettison.

There is an Edward on the IGI, son of Solomon and Cecilia, but I don't think he is the right one.

Thanks.
