Ann,

yes, found my grandfather's brother in the WW1, but not my grandfather, so confident that they are not in that batch.

thanks for the post, though,

Pamela

Heather,

That might be worth following up... could you email me the details of the researcher you know? Have you used him/her personally? (or is it you!?)

I am away for a few weeks now, but it may be something to follow up in the new year.

Many thanks

Pam

Often pre WW1 records are amalgamated with WW1 records. Are you sure they aren't with those records?

Hi there, I know a brilliant and not expensive researcher whose speciality is the Boer War if you want someone to find the records at Kew.

WW2 records can be bought from Glasgow for about £30 but only by the next of kin or the person themselves.

Shirley,

Ah, ok, understood!

Is that the same for WW2 army records do you think? or are these not available at all yet?

Many thanks,
Pam

Probably But you would need to go to Kew to find it
I got Grandad & his Bros Army records from Kew both joined up in the 1890,s which explained why i couldn't find them on the 1901.
My aunts birth cert of 1904 gave her dads Army ref no and from that i found his Army papers and by luck cos they are filed alphabetically ,his bros too .Both names still don't come up if i look on the National Archives online site SO its a physical visit to Kew I,m afraid.

Can any one tell me if I can find any army service records for the 19th Hussars serving in South Africa in 1898/9?

I have found one set of records for a relative, but he stayed in service until 1918 so he falls into the WW1 army pension records file.

Thanks in advance...
