HI,
I had a look on the Commonwealth war graves commission site and there is no record of his death in either of the World Wars.

Could this be him?

Name: FARMER, CECIL JOHN
Initials: C J
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Civilian
Regiment/Service: Civilian War Dead
Age: 52
Date of Death: 13/08/1944
Additional information: of 64 Knight's Hill. Husband of Emily Bridget Farmer. Died at 2 Knight's Hill Square.

(From CWGC)

.....Just had a look at the 1901 census and he doesn't fit with the details you gave. Cecil J was born Lambeth and his father's name was John.
