Amanda came from Bergen, Norway in early 1900s and was a Parlour maid in Alvestoke, Gosport, Hampshire. She became pregnant out of wedlock with my mother Ruby Gunhilde Mikkelsen b. 1908. Amanda never married and I believe my mother was largely brought up by a couple from Stevenage, Hertfordshire. Amanda died in Angmering, Worthing in 1959 still a spinster and still shown as a Parlour Maid. I would dearly love to know what became of her in the intervening years and where my mother actually lived during those years. My mother married in 1947 and I was born in 1949. I naturally would like to know who my grandfather was but this may be something for DNA testing to find out. |
