I am trying to follow the census records of William Potts who is listed in the 1841 census as a son of Henry and Frances (Fanny) Potts
Details that I have are
William Potts
born 1823 Derbyshire Chapel en le Frith
Wifes name in 1856 Martha
believed to have resided in Derbyshire

1881 is free on Ancestry and the LDS site.

If you find him/them on there it will at least indicate that searching in earlier years is worthwhile..........

Hi Reg, The census that I find Williams name listed is the 1861 ..1871 so there must be a 1851..I can locate a William T Potts in the 1881 census but do not know if this is mine.

There's this marriage on BVRI but William's father doesn't match the Henry on the 1841 census:
William Thomas Potts, age 31, married Martha Lowe, age 31, 9 July 1856, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire.
Husband's father William Potts.
Wife's father Joseph Lowe.

But the one I'm following is the one who married Martha in 1856!

OK, so the William Potts who married Martha in 1856 is the William Thomas Potts who was born 1825 Wormhill, son of William & Hannah. He just happened to live all his life in Chapel-en-leFrith.
The other one was born 1823 in Chapel-en-le-Frith, son of Henry & Fanny.
So which one is yours, Allan? You can't have them both!

Many thanks for your HELP this morning..I am sure that I have linked the wrong partner to William Potts b 1823...it is not Martha ..Martha belongs to the other William Potts.....My William Potts is the son of Henry and Fanny Potts..I will check the shipping records as one of his brothers migrated to Australia.
