Sarah
Many thanks for your message. Yes, I could try the local registry Office, but like you, I only have Birmingham as a possible area, and guess there are lots of registers to look through for the different churches. Think I might just have to put my problem on the 'back burner' again, but I might get a birth certificate of one of the children, as Shirley suggested to get the correct maiden name of the wife, who I believe to be Sarah Wood.
Thank you for your help. Sorry I did not reply last night - I try to turn the computer off at 10.00/30pm!
Regards Jo

Hi Jo
I went to a local family tree meeting recently and was told by a professional genealogist that there are a lot of entries in birth, marriage and death missing in the lists.
Apparently, this could be due to the local office not sending the correct information or just purely human error as the books were transcribed by hand at that time and would be easy to miss entries. He said that the London area is the worst, but of course other areas are also involved with this.
We were told that if we couldn't find an entry, to write to the local register office where the event happened and ask them to look through the original copies, not the indexes, to try and find the birth, marriage or death.
I am in exactly the same position as you - I can't find a marriage for one of mine, but I have no idea where they got married as they moved constantly. I am also missing a couple of births and quite a few deaths.
I guess the other reason is for both of us - is that they never actually got married.
Hope this helps.
Sarah

Yes, I realise I ought to get a birth certificate to confirm Sarah's maiden name, but what baffles me really is why I cannot find her marriage. Its not under Henley, Henly, and I have looked under Sarah Wood, (just in case)
I am going to turn the computer off for tonight, but if you find any more, then please let me know.
Again, many thanks for your help. Goodnight Regards Jo

Yes, they are all my family I thought it would be quite simple to find the marriage on BMD or Ancestry, but this has been alluding me for some time now. Thought I would have another 'go' at finding it tonight, but no luck!!
I have tried misspellings, etc, but nothing.
Many, many thanks for your help

Shirley
Thank you for your help
I got the name Sarah Wood from the 1851 census at 9 Edward Street, St. Martins, Birmingham. There was a Sarah Wood there aged 16 b Burton on Trent, Staffs.
On the 1861 Census, Henry was 27 and Sarah was his wife aged 26 b Burton Stafford.
I also have the couple of the 1871, 1881 and 1891 Censuses. I seem to remember that was the only Sarah born Burton aged 16 that fitted the bill, but have never verified it, other than the census.
Yes, Harriet was their 1st child, then Henry James Henley who died in 1866. There is also Sarah Ann H, Amelia H, William James H, Ellen H, Fanny H possibly Henry H and lastly Kate H
Perhaps they never got married!! Thank you very much for your help

I have a Henry Henley who was born Bath ca 1830.
I cannot find his marriage on freebmd or Ancestry.
I believe he married Sarah Wood between 1851 and 1861, possibly in the Birmingham or Burton Staffs area.
On the 1861 Census they were at 152 Icknield, Ladywood, Birmingham with 2 children Harriet age 4 and Henry age 2.
Do hope someone can help Many thanks Jo
