Unusally I am in England, but researching Australian ancestors!

What can I find online in terms of birth records for approx 1890? Ancestry isn't offering anything, even with international access.

Anybody know?

thanks

Hi Pamela

Which State???? FYI -

For New South Wales:- http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/searchHistoricalRecords.htm - Births [1788 - 1906] - Deaths [1788 - 1976] - Marriages [1788 - 1956]. These will give you only some basic information and you will have to pay for a certificate to confirm the details.

For Victoria:- http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=getHistIdxSearchCriteria - Births 1853 to 1906, Deaths 1853 to 1985 and Marriages 1853 to 1942. Church baptisms, marriages and burials 1836 to 1853 - these are full records but they contain limited information. Once again a Pay to get site.

For Queensland:- http://www.justice.qld.gov.au/bdm/IndexSearch.htm - birth, death and marriage records (1829-1914).

For Western Australia:- look at http://www.sro.wa.gov.au/collection/births.asp#other - Index to Births 1841 - 1905 (on microfiche), Index to Marriages 1841 - 1965 (on microfiche), Index to Deaths 1841 - 1980 (on microfiche) - Not sure if there is a search facility or not.

For Tasmania - http://www.justice.tas.gov.au/bdm/family_history/researching_family_trees and http://www.justice.tas.gov.au/bdm/family_history/indexes

For South Australia:- http://www.ocba.sa.gov.au/bdm/ - No Online searching. Check with your local Library or Family History Centre to see if they have the CD's for BDM that are available.

For the Northern Territory:- http://www.nt.gov.au/justice/graphpages/bdm/index.shtml - there doesn't appear to be any on-line searching available

For the Australian Capital Territory:- http://www.rgo.act.gov.au/bdm.shtml - there doesn't appear to be any on-line searching available

There are some members in this Forum offering to do lookups. It might be worth looking for them.

Hope this helps in some small way

Hi.. only just realised there was an answer to this post!

thanks for typing all that out for me..... I have found Cherilyn to do some lookups for me on here, she's been fantastic so far.... but I am sure those sites will come in very handy!
