Oh thanks I didn't realise :)

"I found the marriage but I can't work out why it is 9 years after the birth of Percy himself"
-- Well, if Percy was the son of Mary Ellen Goddard Lidzy and her first husband William Lidzy, and she married Frederick Lidzy after William died, as I suggested, that would explain it ... it could also be that Percy was the son of one of their children who didn't marry ...
You really do need to get Percy's birth certificate and the marriage certificate of Frederick Lidzy and Mary E Lidzy. That should answer most of the questions; not much point in puzzling over questions that can be answered that way!
As for the mistranscriptions, the census records I found under mistranscribed names should help, I think.
While you have the trial subscription, it probably is worthwhile to contact the person who has corrected some Lidzy names there.
Just search for the surname
ledzy lidzy
-- you don't have to put anything else in, just those two names in the "surname" box. It will find the 1851 record with the correction. Click on the corrected name, and there will be a link that says "contact this person". Be sure to send him your email address so that when your subscription expires he can still reach you.

I found the marriage but I can't work out why it is 9 years after the birth of Percy himself and the worst thing is the mispelling of Lidzy makes it a nightmare.
I have a trial sub at Ancestry until Sunday and a full subscription at The Genealogist. Census wise they both come up with different infomation so until the birth cert I'm not sure what I can do.
Seaham lass, it says Frederick Lidzy is a Farm labourer on the marriage cert.
Thanks for the help kathryn

Just one more thing supporting the father William theory.
Frederick's children (in the 1901 census) were registered in Shipston On Stour.
Another batch of Lidzys (could be William's; I can't find him in 1901) were registered in Stratford Upon Avon, where Percy's birth was registered.
Given how old Mary Ellen Goddard Lidzy/Lidzy would have been in 1910 ... she first married in 1884 ... I wonder whether Percy wasn't really a child of one of her or Frederick's children.
This appears to be William and Mary in 1891:
Name: William Liegey -- image says Lidzey Age: 27 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Mary E Gender: Male Where born: Hewbold On Stone, Worcestershire, England Civil Parish: Gaydon Ecclesiastical parish: Gaydon Town: Gaydon County/Island: Warwickshire Country: England Registration district: Southam Sub-registration district: Southam ED, institution, or vessel: 3
Household Members: Name Age Mary E Liegey 32 - born Manchester William Liegey 27
So that would make Mary at least 50 in 1910.

Boy, you'd think with a name like that, it wouldn't be so hard! Of course, it's a name likely prone to much mistranscription ...
Only one Frederick Lidzy in the birth records:
Name: Frederick Lidzy Year of Registration: 1867 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Shipston On Stour County: Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire Volume: 6d Page: 618
and only one in the marriage records:
Name: Frederick Lidzy Year of Registration: 1919 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep Spouse's Surname: Lidzy District: Stratford Upon Avon County: Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire Volume: 6d Page: 2239
-- spouse Mary E Lidzy, how odd.
Here's a theory on that one:
Name: William Lidzy Year of Registration: 1884 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Shipston On Stour County: Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire Volume: 6d Page: 943
-- married Mary Ellen Goddard.
Did Frederick marry the widow of a deceased cousin or brother, or their daughter? Don't see a birth of a Mary Lidzy.
Was Percy maybe William's son in fact?
Name: William Lidzy Estimated Birth Year: abt 1863 Year of Registration: 1912 (death) Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec Age at Death: 49 District: Warwick (To 1932) County: Warwickshire Volume: 6d Page: 814
Only the birth certificate will tell for sure!
Name: Fred Lidzy Age: 4 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1867 Relation: Son Father's Name: William Mother's Name: A Gender: Male Where born: Newbold, Worcestershire, England Civil Parish: Tredington Town: Newbold County/Island: Worcestershire Country: England Registration district: Shipston On Stour Sub-registration district: Halford ED, institution, or vessel: 8 Household schedule number: 60
Household Members: Name Age A Lidzy 34 Fred Lidzy 4 William Lidzy 35 William Lidzy 8
In 1891, that Frederick was a baker employed by a miller, if that helps at all.
Aha, here he is in 1901 -- a stockman on farm, categorized as "Ag Cattle":
Name: Frederick Lidzey Age: 34 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1867 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Emma Gender: Male Where born: Newbold On Stour, Worcestershire, England Civil Parish: Old Stratford Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Trinity County/Island: Warwickshire Country: England Registration district: Stratford on Avon Sub-registration district: Stratford on Avon ED, institution, or vessel: 7 Household schedule number: 63
Household Members: Name Age Alfred W Lidzey 1 Elsie Lidzey 4 Emma Lidzey 33 Euphemia Lidzey 9 Frederick Lidzey 34 John H Lidzey 6 Kate A Lidzey 8
Someone at Ancestry has corrected the name Ledzy to Lidzy in the 1851 census. If you're not subscribed there and would like to contact him, you could send me your email address and I'll pass it on.

What was Fredrick's occupation on the marriage certificate?
|
Thanks, I've just received Percy's marriage certificate in the post I was looking in completely the wrong place.
Frederick Lidzy is the dad. Not having much luck finding out about him either so it looks like I should have ordered a birth certificate too :)
Thanks anyway.

Only one way to find out for sure -- order the birth certificate!
Name: Percy Leonard Lidzy Year of Registration: 1910 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Stratford Upon Avon County: Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire Volume: 6d Page: 706
... aha -- unless you have it and it doesn't give a father's name, which may be the case!
You probably know this too:
Name: Robert Lidzy Year of Registration: 1905 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun District: Stratford Upon Avon County: Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire Volume: 6d Page: 1189
married Edith Caroline Bridges or Constance Eleanor Reason.
No marriage for Richard Ashfield Lidzy, so if Percy's birth cert does not give a father, my money might be on him.
And another PS -- there is someone here at GR with both Robert and Richard in her tree ... which you probably know too. ;)
And yet another tidbit of info you may know:
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=602344
Name: LIDZY, ROBERT Initials: R Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Lance Corporal Regiment/Service: Warwickshire Yeomanry Unit Text: 1st/1st Age: 30 Date of Death: 21/08/1915 Service No: 2287 Additional information: Son of John and Kate Lidzy, of Stratford-on-Avon; husband of Constance Eleanor Lidzy, of 3, Percy St., Stratford-on-Avon. I wonder if you guys could help, I'm trying to trace back my husbands family but I hit a bit of a brick wall. I'm currently waiting for various certificates to arrive but I would appreciate any help.
I'm looking for the father of Percy Leonard Lidzy, he was born in Stratford Upon Avon in 1910. I have 2 possible fathers:
Richard Ashfield Lidzy b. 1891 Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire or Robert Lidzy b.1884 Shipston on Stour, Warwickshire
Of course any other info on the Lidzy would be a welcome too.
