By far the best way to find her maiden name is to buy one or more of the birth certifdicates of the children born in the UK. This will give you the father's name, and the mother's maiden name.


Here are the birth registrations.

Go to www.gro.gov.uk to buy the certificates, each one will cost you £7. The GRO reference number that you will is the set of 2 numbers after Sheffield.

Thomas Henry Judge married Annie Mary Blake 1887 Basford.
I cannot find a birth in Retford for 1865 for Annie but there is a record for Annie Mary Blake born Dec 1868 in Basford.This can be looked up on both FreeBMD and Ancestry.Hope this helps

There is a family of Blakes listed on FreeBMD in Basford
I can find no connection with Retford other than 1901 census
FreeBMD says they were wed in 1887
They were in USA between 1883 and 1889
They were in Sheffield for 1881 census

CC once you have the entry for Thomas Judge come up on free bmd you need to click on the page number. (In this inst. its 230)
This will bring up the entries on that page. As you know the wifes christian name the other entry is irrelevant

Maiden name unknown. Born c1865 in Retford, Notts. Went to USA with husband Thomas. Had four children in Philadelphia and returned to Thomas's home in Sheffield and had four more. Any info please especially maiden name and marriage dates.
