Richard and Helen,

thankyou so much, please don't do any more on this family at the moment, as I have just had an email with some information, and I don't want to waste your time!!

The brother in WW2 looks interesting, and I think we have the right marriage!

Thanks very much

Pam

Hi Pamela,

Found a possible marriage on Victorian website for a John Clifton Drew and Mary Hamilton in 1881. It costs A$0.99 to view the record.

On same website I found a birth for Hamilton Drew in 1885.

http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search.

Perhaps the son of Hamilton Drew WW2 records?

Not Scotland --- Australia! There's a marriage of a John Clifton Drew to a Mary Hamilton in Victoria, 1881. You can download a copy of the certificate here: http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search . The cert will of course tell you where they were born and their parents names.

By the way, there are four births in Victoria of DREW with mothers maiden name HAMILTON between 1881 & 1900 - so presumably your Hamilton had three siblings. Once again, you can get the details from the above site.

Cheers,
Richard

Helen,

Sorry I don't have any further information on them at the moment, I only learned of the names today,.

Perhaps when I have a bit more to go on I will post again, many thanks for the offer.

Hi Pamela,

Do you have the parents shipping records, they should state the port of departure in the UK.

Also the death certificates of the parents in OZ should state their country of birth and where married.

If you want to post a few more details, then I will be happy to help if I can.

alviegal, the son was born in Australia, but I think the parents were from the UK, and as I couldn't find a marriage in England, thought maybe Scotland.

Thanks very much for looking.

Hi,
There are no marriages registered in those names in Scotland between 1855 and 1931. Where was the son born?

you need to look on a site called Scotland's people, it holds all the bdm records from 1850ish to 1906 and many other parish record, wills and the like, it isn't free to look at individual records but costs less than £2 per record so is very cheap, hope this helps

I have the ancestors of 2 australians, who I think may have come from Scotland, at any rate I can't find the marriage on the England and Wales freebmd.

Could someone have a look on the Scottish records for me? Or is there a comparable site to freebmd for Scotland?

They are:-

John Clifton Drew
Mary Ann Hamilton.

a son, Hamilton was born in 1885, so I would expect the marriage to be c1880, but I don't know if there were other children.

many thanks
