Hi, i have a slight problem i have been trying to sort out for a while now. my ggrandma was supposedly born on the 31st march 1908 her name at birth as she was told was Elizabeth Thompson. I cannot find a trace of a birth certificate with that name her brothers older and younger were given her mothers maiden name as a surname ( Hampson ) but that seems to be a dead end unless i am looking at something wrong- my eyes hurt! Can anyone help me please ?? |

Sorry should have wrote that at time of birth she was living in Nottingham, i have ordered the only elizabeth thompson cert and it's not her. That's why i was wondering if she could have been registered a Hampson too? Her brother died when he was 5 and on his death cert it says his name was David Hampson Thompson ? |

I cannot see the birth in Q2 1908 under Hampson or Thompson if she was born in Nottingham. |

I am certain she was told that it is also on her death cert as that and on her marriage cert it says she was 20 in 1928 although i have just noticed she may have swopped her name around i have Alice as a first name here on one cert -my family was a nightmare! |

i think i might order the cert for this one and see how i go, just to let you know rose, her brother David thompson hampson died in 1916 aged 5, her other brother Clarence thompson was born 07/12/1912 has thompson as a surname but no father was registered apparently he was not the same father as my ggran. Could she possibly not have been registered?? this is very strange? |

I don't know his name, bit of a strange situation my gggran ran away from home, changed her name and lived with a man, but not sure if he was the father? This is what i am trying to establish by getting certs. I must be looking in the right places because i am getting all the same info you are?! Can a birth not be registered? Thanks for all of your help !! |

Yes, xome births weren't registered ( my mother's wasn't) and some never made it to the GRO. As somebody as already mentioned, if you are sure of the date, try phoning the relevant Register Office. |
