If you haven't already, I would advise getting one of his marriage certs to be sure that this might be the right chap.

Well, Thomas was born in Kentucky and was a farmer and his wife Maria and the two children were born in Indiana.

Another family member whom I found on here said that his father was Thos, so maybe this one is them

A Samuel W Herdon appeared in the 1870 US Federal Census living in Indiana, but disappeared from the US Census taken in 1880. I am not sure if this is the same person. The first known whereabout of Samuel Hearden is in 1871 England Census where he was resident in a orphan house in Gloucestershire. I'm not sure how he came to be in England or to be orphaned. The puzzle deepens, as the ones kindly found by yourselves show Samuel still living in USA when he is 21, so I don't think this is him

Big big ask now, can anyone find out anything about Samuels parents, or siblings I'm puzzled as to why he turned up in England listed as an orphan.

Kind regards

Hi
If anybody has some spare time, I would love a look up for the following, I have been looking for months with not much luck:-

Samuel Wiliam Hearnden born 1857 boston USA (don't think it was Massachusettes though) he came to england as an orphan listed n 1871 as Gloucester orphanage, he married twice to Fanny Hadda and Elizabeth Bagby, I realy would love to know where he came from and his parents if possible
Many thanks
Siobhan
