Its a good site if you are doing a research into particular trades etc.in an area. I know last year I gleaned dozens of lightermen wharfingers off there for London docks.

But it is a difficult site to navigate if you are just searching for a name and though I got my GGF on there in his cabinet makers business - it gave me no info I hadnt had previously - just his name and address.

I think the newspaper sites are rather more exciting to find rellies on as you get some interesting articles, even its only their continuous bankruptices.

But any info gleaned is worthwhile on any sites.:)

By the way, for 17th 18th and 19th century directories - ancestry is also very useful.

Historical Directories is a digital library of local and trade directories for England and Wales, from 1750 to 1919. It contains high quality reproductions of comparatively rare books, essential tools for research into local and genealogical history. Could be worth a look
