I traced further back into my tree and discovered that my grgr grandmother Catherine Lewis was born in Ystalyfera 1873/1874,her street address at that time was 2 Penlan Row.
I also discovered that her mum was also named Catherine Lewis y.o.b. 1848/1849,do not know where she originated from.
But she was married to a Daniel Lewis y.o.b.1854/1855.
They had a number of daughters i have managed to trace 6 so far, there may well be more.
On the 1891 census my grgr grandmother was a tin-plate cleaner and she was boarding at Western Street in Llansamlet along with her sister Mary A Lewis y.o.b. 1869/1870.
On the 1901 census Catherine was again boarding at 104b Woodfield Street Morriston,Swansea along with her daughter Alice-May Lewis.
If anyone can recognise this further information i would appreciate your replies.
Best Wishes,
Helen

I am trying to find any info in regards to my grgr grandmother Catherine Lewis,i think she was born around 1877 possibly in swansea or surrounding area.
In 1897 Catherine had a daughter and named her Mary-Maud,the day after the birth she renamed her daughter Alice-May Lewis, she was born in the union workhouse in swansea.
Catherine was possibly from a large family with 12 siblings or she had 12 children herself.
Catherine spent her last years in Morriston in Swansea with her daughter Alice and her grandaughter Dorothy Marks, she also possibly married a William Marks somewhere along the line.
Catherine was fluent in both English and Welsh, but preffered to speak Welsh.
If anyone can help me in my search i would be very gratefull.
Many Thanks,
Helen.
