Just a thought - have you checked for mistrans as "Little" or "Johns"?

CelticShiv Report 5 Nov 2007 11:09

Hi the Edwin Littlejohns you have there with occupation as a builder of theatrical contents born in Plymouth is Edwin juniors father. Edwin juniors occupation was also a stage carpenter.

Yep I have all the births and deaths etc thanks.

Just can not find him in 1881 grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. So frustrating.

Do you think they could of just been missed off? His wife Leonora is also a real difficult one, as I can not find her in some of the earlier census' before she married Edwin . She was actually the first cousin of Sir Alfred Gilbert, the famous sculptor.

this is him in 1891

Name: Edwin Little John
[Edwin Littlejohn]
Age: 32
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1859
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Gertrude
Gender: Male
Where born: Bloomsbury, London, England

Civil Parish: St Pancras
Ecclesiastical parish: Kentish Town
County/Island: London
Country: England

Street address:

Sarah Ann Bennett 60
Edwin Little John 32
Emily G John 12
Frank C John 5
Gertrude John 32
Gladys D John 6
Horace E C John 10
Sybil M John 8

it is quite common for the Littlejohns name to be mistranscribed as you can see above. But I have tried various alternatives with no luck.

perhaps I should just except I am not going to find them in 1881.

CelticShiv Report 5 Nov 2007 11:18

there appears to be some damaged missing pages in St George Bloomsbury (which comes under stgiles) , as I found this on ancestry

http://content.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx=view&r=5538&dbid=7572&iid=LNDRG11_319_323-0191&fn=&ln=Record+from+1881+England+Census&st=d&ssrc=&pid=14601319

so perhaps they are in amongst those.

Heather

Heather Report 5 Nov 2007 11:55

They dont appear to have moved far on all the other census do they so it seems likely thats the problem. I wonder if find my past may have them though?
