I have contacted both Sunderland and Newcastle Archives who have said that the records would have been destroyed during the second world war. Unfortunately I am too far away to visit the area and search the records of the newspapers myself. Are there any websites or anything that you can recommend to help?

Hi Both,

Sophie, yes that is the marriage of George to Elizabeth Batey.

The informant details are those of the Coroner James F Bunicle.

The certificate states that an Inquest was held 26th Feb 1917.

Who was the informant and what was their relationship to George?

Sometimes this info really helps to link a family with a census record.

I am researching my grandads ancestral line and require some advice or help.

My great great grandfather George William Christie was born c1882. From the 1901 census for him and his wife Elizabeth he was born in Sunderland but we have been unable to conclude this so far.

My grandad told me that his grandfather died when his dad was a very young age. I have obtained a death certificate that I presume could be him. Details are;

Date of death: 23rd Feb 1917 11 Nite Street, Sunderland.
Age 35 years
Occupation: Colliery Horsekeeper
Cause of death: Otitis Media and Meningitis set up by accidental injury to head whilst at work in Nov 1916.

Is there anywhere I can get further information such as the accident or details of the wife (if any to confirm it is my great great grandfather?

Thanks

Donna
