Did you look at the non-conformist records at Woodhorn?

Apparently a lot of people at that time in Northumberland were non-conformist - as I found out after spending a whole afternoon looking for a baptism in parish records only to be told as I was leaving that I should have tried the non-conformist records (where I later did find the baptism I was looking for).

You could consider looking beyond 1851 - and beyond the birth of the first child, or two, or even three. They didn't always get married before they had their first child and one or two of mine didn't get married until they'd had at least two children!

It might not be registered as it wasn't Compulsory until 1875

I am trying to find the marriage for my 2x great grandparents Robert Simpson and Ann Ramsay.

Robert was born 1825 in Blyth Northumberland and Ann was born ? 1828 North Shields, Northumberland but I have her on the census from 1841 residing with her parents in Blyth.

By 1851 Ann is still with her parents but is now under her married name of Simpson, there are no children listed, Robert is not with her, nor can I find him on the census but as he was a mariner I presume he was at sea.The first child I have on record is Anne Jane Simpson born 27th October 1853 ( her birth certificate confirms mother to be Ann Ramsay).

I think the marriage would have taken place sometime between 1846 to 1851, but I have searched the free bmd site and the full marriage registrations and cannot find a match. I recently visited Woodhorn and found what I believe are Roberts baptism at Earsden Parish Church together with other siblings and his parents marriage but I no trace of his marriage.

Has anyone any ideas where I might try next as I just seem to be going around in circles and not getting any further. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou
Karen
