Many thanks for all your suggestions. I think the Albert I am looking for is the one that is the one that Lindsay has come up with as my father has said that Albert's dad died when he was just 2. Plaistow ties in nicely too, as does the marriage to Ivy Holyfield and the birth of Anthony, while Mary is a family name. Am now searching for Albert's brother William who I think is older than him and two younger sisters.

I am trying to trace my Grandpa, ALBERT VICTOR DOWDING born c 1890 in the East End of London in all probability.
His mother was widowed at a young age and split the family: the older children went to the workhouse while the younger ones stayed with her. Albert and at least 2 sisters were brought up by their mum but the girls sadly died of Diptheria.
I believe he had family in and around Fovant in the 1930s, and probably before and after that date.
Other than that I know little of his origins but would dearly like to solve the mystery of our ancester for my father.
