I'm getting really confused! Is this the right Frederick Charles?

Births Sep 1872
MARSH Frederick Charles S. Stoneham 2c 66

The district S. Stoneham is an alternative name for South Stoneham and it is in the county of Hampshire

The above date ties in with what Rebecca said above.

Is this a possible marriage?

Marriages Sep 1902

Brickell Louisa Alice Southampton 2c 1
Marsh Frederick Charles Southampton 2c 1
Spearey Ezekiel Welch Southampton 2c 1
West Alice Ada Southampton 2c 1

Do you know if he had any children?

I think you need the date of death to start with. Best to get his death certificate as it will also tell you where he died to help narrow it down.

Rebecca Report 10 Nov 2007 00:37

Hi Julie, are you sure frederick charles was a brother to the twins? if he was their brother there was a large age gap. Is it possible that frederick charles was the twins father, and george henry the twins grandfather. i found a marriage for frederick charles in 1902 which would coincide with the year the twins were born.
on the 1881 & 1891 census there is a George H Marsh (wife called emily) with a son called frederick birth is about 1874, this is close to the age of the frederick that was on the titanic, which states he was 39, which would have made his birth year 1873. it's a very good possibility.thanks rebecca

Thanks for your replies, I know he married a lady called emily but have no surname and they married before 1903 as my gramp and his twin where born then. they also lived in the southampton area, I have tried finding george on the census but again do not have parents names and his only brother die on the titanic, that says on one document that he was 28 and on another 39 !! so I gather he was born on or after 1873 as I know my gt gramp was born 1881 as I have that info.

There are a couple of pictures of 'Back of the Walls' on this site - the houses were literally built up against the city walls..
http://search.plimsoll.org/cgi-bin/dialogserver.exe?THRESHOLD=99&QUERY00=back+of+the+walls&db=plimsoll&PROP00=t%3Dp%2Cs%3Dall

The houses were mostly demolished in slum clearances after the war. There has been an archealogical dig in the area for the past few years, and lots of medieval artefacts found.

I think you would be better to wait until you have your gramps birth certificate before looking for great grandads death, so that you are sure you have the correct name.
