Yes, all his siblings births are registered - but our George doesnt seem to be.
It is a real mystery this one!

Thanks for this - but unfortuantely that isnt him either.
I spotted that one the other day and looked on the 1881 census, and there is a George F Helm living in Stockton in 1881 with his parents, who are not my George's parents.

Theres a

George Elms age 79 Q1 1943 Durham W. 10A 247....that would make him born in 1864

Please could someone see if they can find the birth and death entry of my great grandfather, George Francis ELMS.
He was born approx 1864, and all the census's say he was born at Broomside, Durham. His ages in all the census's suggest that he was born in 1864.

I havent got his death certificate, but my Uncle told me he died on March 8th 1943 - I think at Willington, Co Durham. Could someone see if his age is recorded on the death entry.

I have looked off and on for years for George's birth entry and can't find it. I'm beginning to think that his birth was not registered, as I can't find his baptism either. (but that's another story!)
I've looked at different variations of the ELMS surname, such as
ELMES, ELLMS, ELLMES, NELMS, NELEMS etc and not found him.

George's parents originally came from High Littleton, Somerset,
(reg district for that is Clutton) and they moved to Risca, South Wales, (reg district for that is Newport M) then finally moved to Co Durham where George was born.
I've kept an open mind and wondered if they had gone back to their old home town to give birth to him, but havent come up with anything there either.

Maybe a fresh pair of eyes could find his birth please.

PS There is a George Francis Elms born in Merthyr T in Wales in
March qtr 1867, but he is my George's cousin.

I have to go and make tea now, but will look in again later in the evening.
