Philip Report 7 Nov 2007 17:54

Hi,

I'm trying very hard to find the ancestors of my Great Grandfather, Edward Yale, but with no success.

According to the 1901 census, Edward was born in c.1856 in Madeley, Shropshire.

He married Hannah Brown (also of Madeley)

The earliest census record I can find for Edward is 1891, and a search on Ancestry.co.uk reveals NO apparent birth certificate records or marriage records.

I'm puzzled by both the lack of these records, and also his ability to avoid 3 consecutive censuses.

Can anyone offer any insight into this, or suggestions as to what to try next?

Thanks,

Phil

To all who've helped with this, particularly Sue and Geraldine, many, many thanks. Never, ever occurred to me to search for nearly-but-not-quite spellings of the name! That's a lesson learnt for the future!

Many of the records you've found are indeed the ones I need - Edward's wife was Hannah P Brown.

I was trying to trace Edward via a suspected Brother, John, but unfortunately there were 4 John Yales born in Shropshire, to quite separate families, between 1850 and 1860, so I could never be confident which was the right John. Hopefully your efforts will have gone a long way towards tracing Edward and John's parents via a more direct route now.

Thank you all again.

Thanks Lindy - I'm sure it is. Hannah's middle name was definitely Purslow, and name also given to her granddaughter.

Found this on the success board...

Star Helpers! Philip 29/11/2007 11:08:21 0
From reading these success stories (and the Trying to Find boards) from time to time, I share my appreciation of all those people on this site who chip in and try to help others find the ancestors and relatives.

It seems divisive to single out any particular individuals, but there were 3 ladies in particular who helped me enormously (and I notice they've also provided lots of help to others too), so I'm going to do precisely that ....

So, take a bow Geraldine, SueS and LindyLou - quite how you all find the time to do the research that you do is beyond me, but I'm grateful, as I'm sure are many others.

I know there are others like you - I apologise for not mentioning the many others equally deserving of thanks, but hey - I can't keep track of everyone :-)

Keep it up everyone - you're doing a fantastic service.

Phil
