A couple of marriages might be of interest -- the only ones in St Marylebone in the likely time period:

Name: Mary Elizabeth Wells
Year of Registration: 1906
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: St Marylebone (1902-1977)
County: Greater London, London
Volume: 1a
Page: 1227

married Albert Edward Gordon or William Cole

Name: John H Wells
Year of Registration: 1918
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Spouse's Surname: Sharp
District: St Marylebone (1902-1977)
County: Greater London, London
Volume: 1a
Page: 1613

married Jane Sharp.

There are no Wells-Sharp births, at least as transcribed by FreeBMD to date.

There are no Gordon-Wells children after the point in 1911 when mother's birth surnames were included in records, but there are these Cole-Wells births:

Benjamin Cole 1912 Apr-May-Jun
Paddington Greater London, London, Middlesex

Violet Cole 1916 Jan-Feb-Mar
Hampstead Greater London, London, Middlesex

Albert E Cole 1913 Jul-Aug-Sep
Hendon (1837-1947) Middlesex

And there's someone with a tree at GR that has all three of those Wells-Cole children in it, so that might be an easy confirm/deny situation!

Aha, I just confirmed. The same person has Mary Wells born 1884, Eastbourne, Sussex, which matches your Mary in 1901.

Didncha search trees first?! Go make a contact now!

Oops, unless that person is you-by-another-name, or a cousin you know already ... ;)
