You would need to give some idea of when the marriage took place...........the years you need are not transcribed, and every image has to be looked at.

When did they have their first child?

And where was the child born?

Many thanks for help on marriage information. Now I can concentrate on the birth and death of Margaret. What is the best way to find out if my mother had any brothers or sisters?

dancingqueen Report 8 Nov 2007 22:44

Well it means trawling through the index quarter by quarter and seeing if you can find any other children born Leech with Mother Maiden Name Hughes -not a guarantee but especially if district born the same that high probability, but would have to buy certificates to guarantee.

Thanks Joanna.
I have spent all day trying to find any info on Margaret so I can see this is a long slow job. I am fairly new to this so all advice and help is appreciated. I am patiently waiting for the arrival of grandads birth certificate so I can hopefully go back further.
I am having a slow job tracking down some of my fathers side as well.
But i must say all in all I am enjoying myself.

Margaret Ethel Hughes birth may be difficult to find as Hughes is a popular surname, so you may need to buy marriage certificate as this should give her age at marriage and also both Bride and Groom's Fathers name and occupation -and also the witnesses can sometimes be relatives, so quite useful.

Joanna you are a star. I will certainly look into the possible brothers and sisters. I will also send off for marriage certificate.

I have another problem I wonder if you could give me advice on. My mother divorced my father and married an american airman. I know they had a daughter here in England but then i think they went to America. Is there anyway i can find info as I have his airforce number.

Have checked all the births from 1932 -1943 obviously depending on her age at marriage will depend on whether there is a possibility that she may have had any more children.

The research is some times a slow journey but very addictive

Well if the marriage and child were born in England then you would be able to search for them like any other on the Birth and Marriage index.

But am afraid I am not very hot on Military and stuff in America, I know that they are far stricter with giving out information due to identity fraud.

My advice is email everyone and anyone asking if they can assist as they can only say no and hopefully many will help.

May be an American Message Board is an option

Hope this is helpful am sure others more in the know will give you some other advice

Thanks Joanna for advice. I shall leave you in peace now. I shall certainly start asking for more help instead of struggling on my own.

There is this birth in West Derby which is a possible but you need to get the marriage certificate first to establish her age:-

Name: Margaret E Hughes
Year of Registration: 1914
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
Mother's Maiden Name: Hughes
District: West Derby
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8b
Page: 1187

It looks as if this Margaret is illegitimate as the mother's maiden name is Hughes, so if the marriage certificate doesn't give a father's name this one is more likely to be a possibility.
