It may well be that he was born in Frithsden but as his earliest memory was of living in Great Gaddesden that is what he gave as his place of birth. |

Looking at the image for 1851 I would say the surname is Rance mistranscribed as Rassel. |

I've checked 1841 census and David is married to Sophia on that one too. |
