1871 Census Look Up Please

Clara Stones born 1865 Wigan Lancs.
On 1881 census Clara is 16 and her mother Catherine is 42.
On 1861 census Catherine her mother is 24 and with husband James 26 and baby Mary M aged 1. They where in Scholes area of Wigan in all the census I have but I cann't find the family on the 1871. Please could someone take a look for me.

Ancestry is riddled with transcription errors - many much worse than this one. If you cant find someone you just have to unset "Exact matches" and then trawl through page after page. It's also worth trying spelling errors of your own. It's a pity that Ancestry dont give you option of flagging which of the data you are sure about (in this case the dob and parents names) and which you are unsure of (in this case the surname because when you cant find it you suspect a transcription error)
Roy's technique (see blow) is a good one if you are looking for someone living with their parents and you know the parents names, but you cant use it in 1841 - I dont know why.
BTW as James was a grocer he will appear in various directories.

when you put the correct info into the search, If their is a transcription error it will not show the results you are looking for,

so try just using first names, eg I put in Clara born 1864 Wigan with father James and mother Catherine then click search, try this with the search results above and you will see how it works
