which records do you check?

Hi i'm pretty new at this,do any of you have any tips which web sites you actually look up your information? Do you use the genes reunited records or does anyone know of any free sites i could look up as it can get pretty expensive.

I never use Genes records as they are really expensive.

FreeBMD is free

Familysearch is free

Ancestry you need to pay for - I buy a yearly subscription and find it excellent value for money.

Always ask on here - Records Office is good - if you're looking for a specific person or two in census returns to get you started but Ancestry is worth it in the long run!
