Robert Abbott's mother

I am trying to trace the name of my grandfather Robert Abbott's mother. Robert's father was a Joseph Abbott who married Jane Waggett and lived in Gunnerside in 1871. Joseph was a hawker and I believe Robert was born outside of the marriage in circa 1866 as he is not named as a family member in the 1871 Census. I know that Robert's birth was never registered and believe his mother to have the surname Ruecroft. Robert eventually received an education and finished up as an editor for the Newcastle Journal. I also believe he attended the Newcastle RGS. He married a Mary Ann Thoburn in 1885 and died in 1939. If anyone has any information on Robert or his mother, please let me know. |
