Hi Claire, do any of your Sharrocks sound similar to mine?
I may have some of them wrong. In my 1st posting James Sharrock has 5 children, after a bit more research I am having trouble prooving this, however they are all related. May be his nieces or nephews.

Hi Nikki -- you're welcome! Serendipity is a big factor in this business, I find. It's one reason I poke around in other people's families -- you never know what you might find of interest to yourself, and I've had that happen.

Also, you get people who are wildly grateful for stuff you find and offer you their firstborn children ... or at least offer to go to the local library and hunt something up, as has just happened for me -- someone here whose mystery I solved happens to live in a place in Cheshire where I have a little 19th century mystery of my own .... and now that I've sent her the details, I'm betting she wishes she'd never posted here after all. ;)

I don't have any remote connection with Lancashire though, so you're probably safe!

Just in case you're not familiar with Hugh Wallis's info about batch numbers in the IGI -- that's what I used to find some of those things --

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers.htm#Menu

I prefer to just copy the batch numbers and paste them into the box in the standard IGI search form, with a surname (plus father's/mother's name(s), e.g.), rather than click on the link he provides for each batch number.

Or, once you find somebody you're looking for and the record has a clickable batch number, just click on it and search for siblings etc.

That might help for looking for links between your Banks-s, e.g.

Thanks so much, appology, Yes were all from Wigan Lancashire.

Had found James' mother as a Banks a while ago but lost the info and could not find it again (beging to wonder if I ever had) So thanks heaps for that,as you said not asking for it, but sure is an added bonus.

Had no info at all on Henry's parents, so what you have included is a great start.

We have Henry Sharrock b1861 with his 2nd wife as Elizabeth Banks, will be interesting to see if it is the same Banks line as his G-grandmother.

Thanks again for such a quick reply, Nikki.

So, not knowing any places where these things might have happened ... info in the IGI suggests it was Wigan, Lancashire. I'll bet you know where these people were born, and just didn't say. You have to say!!!

There are births in the IGI in Wigan with father James and mother Mary who match your James's children more or less.

There's this marriage:

JAMES SHARROCK
Spouse: MARY DOYSON
Marriage: 16 SEP 1823 Wigan, Lancashire, England

Could be him.

This looks like his birth, Peggy being short for Margaret:

JAMES SHARROCK
Birth: 27 MAY 1804
Christening: 17 JUN 1804 Wigan, Lancashire, England
Father: HENRY SHARROCK
Mother: PEGGY BANKS

So that gets you his mother's name, which you weren't asking for. ;)

Unfortunately, there are two possible births:

2. HENRY SHARROCK - father Thomas, mother Elisabeth
Christening: 04 MAY 1770 Wigan, Lancashire, England
3. HENRY SHARROCK - father Thomas, mother Rachell
Christening: 02 MAY 1772 Wigan, Lancashire, England

and I'll bet you knew that too. ;)

This looks like his wife:

PEGGY BANKS
Christening: 21 MAR 1773 Wigan, Lancashire, England
Father: JAMES BANKS
Mother: BETTY
