I am trying to trace my family connection to the Hardy family who lived in Ashover, Derbyshire from before 1880 till after 1948. In 1879 an A Hardy signing her(?)self as 'your cousin' wrote to either my great-g'father Henry Gregory or great-g'mother Ellen (nee Casey) mentioning uncle Joseph Gregory died 1878 and also that Alfred (Hardy?) got married. An Alfred Hardy's marriage is recorded for Chesterfield district 3rd quarter 1878. In the 1901 census Alfred Hardy at the same address as on the 1879 letter is married to Ann (born Rufford, Notts) and has 5 children. Elizabeth age 21 is a school teacher. Of 2 sons the elder is Samuel Hardy. Kelly's directories from 1895 through to 1941 mention first Alfred Hardy as a farmer then Samuel Hardy at the same address. Local histories of the early 20th century mention Miss Hardy as one of the teachers at the local school. Alfred Hardy's birthplace is given on the census record as Stanton, Derbyshire. This is probably Stanton-in-Peak close to Birchover and not far from Bakewell as the 1879 letter refers to relatives at Birchover.
Does anyone recognise any of this information?
