Find Ancestors

I am trying to confirm/find out a few details about the Baxendale's in my tree. To start with i'll tell you what i know.

in the 1871 census William Baxendale (b c1826 Chorley Lancashire) with wife Ann (b c1826 Lydney Gloucs) were in Grangetown in Cardiff. With them were children:

Walter W age 16
Susanah age 12
Ann age 10
Alice age 8
John age 6
Robert age 1

All born in Cardiff according to census.

So far so good. I cannot find the family in the 1861 census but can see them again in 1881 with pretty much the same details (for children still at home anyway). Walter William is on the 1881 census as Butendale.

I cannot find any birth references for any of these children in cardiff except for Susanah in 1860 and Robert in 1870. Now whilst it was possible the other children weren't registered i find it hard to believe that 2 out of the 6 were but not the other 4. Walter William is my direct descendant and so it is he i am most interested in. I've searched freeBMD for a 30 year period (1840 to 1870) for Walter William and there is none registered in the UK!!!

I am hoping that someone might be able to find them on the 1861 census to at least confirm where they were living then if nothing else!!

Can't help with the census entry but I found the following baptism on the Lancs Parish Clerk site: -

Do you know when and where William & Ann married? Could they have been in Lancashire? If so, maybe Walter was born there?

Could Walter have been Ann's child before she married William?perhaps you need to get one of the childrens birth certificates to get her maiden name

Selena thanks again - both possible - perhaps 2nd one most likely if William was baptised close to birth as he was baptised late in the year. I guess i will have to order the cert of one of the siblings which i have the reference for.
