Hi Belinda -- if you go to

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

and search for

marriages
surname: Black
spouse's surname: Miller

-- say from 1900 to 1918 -- you'll get a list of potential marriages. You can rule out the ones where the Black is a woman, to start with, and you'll have some potential pairs. (Before mid-1911, you can't be sure that the Black and Miller on a page married each other.)

Makes far more sense to just order up your William's birth certificate, of course!

Are you sitting comfortably?? Then I'll begin........lol
My Grandfather William Black was born in 7th December 1912 in Liverpool. I've managed to get in contact with a second family of his we never knew about, nor knew about us until after his death in June 1994 in Chelmsford Essex.
What I want to know is have any of you got a lady Miller who was married to someone named Black and who could possibly be his mother? I havent had chance to get his birth certificate as yet.
I know my grandfather was a bit of a rogue and was in and out of prison much of his life and I'm wondering if this is the reason he left liverpool and the subsequently moved to manchester where he had a daughter with my grandmother Amelia Smethurst. The more I look the more it appears that they never actually married however my grandfather's name is on my mothers birth certificate.
I really hope this makes sense to someone out there who can maybe shed some light on this!!!!
