Eliza Bradley is born c.1867 but by 1881 she is described as an adopted daughter being born in Bowling, Bradford. Does the 1871 show her with real parents please?

Many thanks,
Frances

Here is a possible but no indication why she would have been adopted unless mum died?

I wondered if she might be related to the adoptive parents Emanuel & Sarah Shuttleworth so checked Free BMD. No luck. She was Sarah Ibbotson.

Thank you Christine, that looks closer but not quite Bowling?
Margaret - a woman after my own heart. I had that thought but had not checked it out and now you have saved me the bother!!

Thank you Christine, still possible if the adoptive parents were not sure where Eliza was born and possibly Eliza was too young for Wallace to cope with when their parents died ???
Odsall is betwween Wibsey and Bowling.

I would not place too much reliance on the birthplace of Bowling in 1881 as it is just a ditto. I fancy Christine is right. Looks like you had a family tragedy of some sort. However I cannot find deaths for either parent between 1871 and 1881.

Thank you Michael, that is the detail that helps.
I have found a marriage for Isaac and Eliza in Knaresborough so this family seems to be buiding nicely,
There are no other suitable Eliza in the 1881 unaccounted for........

Sad, but you have got to be prepared to discover this sort of thing if you do family history. No family is immune. The Queen had two cousins, Katherine and Nerissa Bowes-Lyon, who were reported dead in Burke's Peerage but were actually in an asylum from wartime until the 1980's.

The only outstanding point is what happened to Isaac? He may have been unable to care for Eliza jnr after his wife was committed, if he was stll alive, but where is he? Eliza snr is described as a widow on the workhouse record but I cant find his death.
