Can find no children of this marriage. Now can I find a Maud V Hurford on the 1891 or 1901 Census (several Maud Hurford!!).

I think you have to get that marriage certiificate, it will tell you whether she has been married before, and the names of the two fathers .... which will let you go further back.


OR get a birth certificate for one of the children as that will also tell you her maiden name and a previous married name if there was one.



BTW .................. 28 and 36 was not old for those days at all.

Especially in the "working" class.


They had to take care of aged parents, or save up the money or whatever.


Also 1917 is during WW!, and William was of an age to have been in the forces

Yes i think that both of them may have been married before and that is what makes it a bit difficult because they didnt wed until they were maud 28 & william 36!!!!!
Tha ages seem to be a bit old for them days !!

I've just realised on the marriage index she is Maud V. which makes it a whole new ballgame.

Do you realise that finding the children of the William/Maud marriage means that someone has to search quarter by quarter year by year through the Complete Index on ancestry from about 1920 to the 1950s or so? In some unknown geographical area?


They are not easily available.


For children between 1917 and about 1920/25, you yourself can go to www.freebmd.org.uk, and check to see if there were any. It's a free site!

There may be more children. I used Freebmd & not everything from 1910 onwards is transcribed yet.

Do you need census data for William & Violet? If so you will need to tell us if the info on Violet that Jim found is correct, & which William of the above you think he is. Cannot find a William Thomas Spearing 1880/1881.
