I am trying to find out information on William Alexander Davies. I have no idea where he was born. He had a daughter called Edna, born 1900, who I believe may have been illigitimate (she is my grandmother) I never met Edna but I have her wedding certificate from 1931. On it she gives William Alexander Davies as her father and his occupation is Forman Joiner. I do not know where Edna was born (or even if she was born davies) but she died in Liverpool in 1955. Edna gave birth to my father Norman Davies in Ripon North Yorshire on July 26th 1921. (I also know there was anouther illigitimate boy born in Ripon in 1919 he was called Ernest and was sent to Leeds for Adoption he was also born crippled. Edna was in Ripon until 1921 and we believe she then went to Liverpool. We do not have her mothers name (it may have been Mary Jane Bland) but we are not sure. We have all the pieces of our jigsaw except her date and place of bitrh and also we cannot trace William Alexander Davies.

Hi Susan -- this looks a lot like it could be your Edna in 1901:

Name: Edna Bland
Age: 10 months
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1900
Relation: Granddaughter
Gender: Female
Where born: Easingwold, Yorkshire, England

Civil Parish: Easingwold
Ecclesiastical parish: Easingwold
Town: Easingwold
County/Island: Yorkshire
Country: England

Registration district: Easingwold
Sub-registration district: Easingwold
ED, institution, or vessel: 4
Neighbors: View others on page
Household schedule number: 17
Household Members:
Name Age
Edna Bland 10 months
Mary Bland 69 - living on own means
Mary Jane Bland 29

Age and mother's name match rather well. -- Unless that's where you were getting the Mary Jane Bland idea, and I'm just repeating your labours ...

This would be that Edna's birth:

Name: Edna Bland
Year of Registration: 1900
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Easingwold
County: Durham, Yorkshire - North Riding
Volume: 9d
Page: 445

Someone here at GR does have an Edna Bland born 1901, no location specified.

A Mary Jane Bland did marry in Easingwold some time later:

Name: Mary Jane Bland
Year of Registration: 1907
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Easingwold
County: Durham, Yorkshire - North Riding
Volume: 9d
Page: 959

-- to Thomas Cowling or Harry North.

Cowling, it seems. Alice Cowling and Ann Cowling, mother Bland, were born in Scarborough in 1912 and 1915. Might be worth trying to track descendants of them down to see whether the Mary Jane Bland is one and the same -- although the mother of Edna would have been 43 when that Alice was born.

This would be that Mary Jane Bland:

Name: Mary Jane Bland
Year of Registration: 1872
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Easingwold
County: Durham, Yorkshire - North Riding
Volume: 9d
Page: 359

This would be the household in 1891:

Name: Mary J Bland
Age: 18
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1873
Relation: Daughter
Mother's Name: Mary
Gender: Female
Where born: Easingwold, Yorkshire, England

Civil Parish: Easingwold
Ecclesiastical parish: Easingwold
Town: Easingwold
County/Island: Yorkshire
Country: England

Registration district: Easingwold
Sub-registration district: Easingwold
ED, institution, or vessel: 6

Household Members:
Name Age
James T Bland 28
Mary Bland 59
Mary J Bland 18

... lucky I looked at the image; the household separation marks were done wrong, and the head of household got attached to the previous household: Thomas Bland, 58, retired tailor, born Easingwold.

Could be a complete red herring trail, could be your people!
