Find Ancestors

I am trying to find records of my grandmothers parents and great great aunties sister. My grandmother was born 24th June 1906 (Helen McGregor) and her Auntie, Georgina McGregor was born in August 1904. As far as I believe, my grandmother was born in Forfar.

Your help would be most appreciated as my mother never knew her grandmother, so she does not have this information. I also know that my great great aunties brother who was known as Edward McGregor, emigrated to Canada and married a Mary McOmish.

I hope someone out there can help me as I now have an eight month old daughter, who one day will be able to see where her roots started off.

Sorry can't help on the MacGregor bit, what do you want to know about Bowman's - you don't mention them in your posting

To find out info you are going to have to use the following website which is pay per view. You have to buy credit £6 for 30, 1 credit for a lookup & a further 5 to see the register.

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

From there you should be able to find the registry of your grandmother's birth which will show both her parent's names.
Next find her parent's marriage from the same site which will show their parent's names (Scotland shows Mum's as well as Dad's. With a bit of luck you should have a load of info within no time.

My grandmothers married name was Bowman. She was married to a John Bowman c1900. As far as I know, the Bowman's is the more difficult side to search as my late Uncle tried but didnt get very far.

It was McGregor, not MacGregor. I don't know if that makes any difference.

It will make a difference, one is Irish and the other is Scottish.


But they are saying that you should do the look-up for yourself on that website they have given you as it is a pay per view site .......... and anyone searching on your behalf would have to pay for it.


But you could ask people to help search for the Bowman part of your heritage ... get us working on that one, with as much information as you can.

Assuming of course that the marriage did not happen in Scotland ..... in which case, you are going to have to do the search yourelf on the same site!

This is just Scotland. There are 28 John Bowmans in England. The last one looks a possibility but you won't know for sure until you see the marriage cert.
