Is there anyone who is descended from or has information on Clementina Macdonald (c1754-1842) daughter of Allan Macdonald, brother of Donald Macdonald of Kinlochmoidart.
Allan escaped to France after the failed Jacobite rebellion, and served for a time in the French army.
Clementina was born in Scotland around 1754, and was said to be a god daughter of 'the old pretender' James the father of Bonnie prince Charlie.
She married in 1779 in London, Francis Schnell a German gentleman who was a noted Scholar and Mathematician. By him she had two sons:
(a) John Stuart Schnell (1780-1817) an officer in the East India Co.
(b) Charles Vaughan Schnell (1785-1815) also an officer in the East India Co.
Clementina was described as a cousin of Sir John Macdonald of the East India Company, although it is not clear how they were related. Perhaps someone has information on this connection.
Clemintina lived latterly at Kew, Surrey and died there in 1842, survived by three grandchildren:
Louisa Schnell, born 1805 who married H.W. Coultman in 1832.
John Macdonald Schnell, born 1810 who died in 1871.
Francis Macdonald Schell born c1810 who married Clementina Levein in 1832. Francis died in Cincinatti, Ohio in 1852.
Are there any living descendants of this family who might be able to shed light on the Macdonald side of their family?
Any further information would be welcome.
