I am trying to find information on the following people:
Charles Murray c1850, his partner Catherine Smith c1850 and Charles Anthony Murray 1916 and his partner Cecilia Mongahan 1925. It is believed that the family lived the North of England, possibly the Middlesbrough area. Charles Murray(the younger) also lived in Stevenage during the 1950's. If anybody has anything they think would help, could they please contact me? In anticipation, many thanks.
Margaret

I have to admit I don't know the geography, but I'm wondering whether these might be them in 1881:

Name: Charles Murray
Age: 55
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1826
Relation: Head
Spouse's Name: Catherine
Gender: Male
Where born: Tarpenhow, Cumberland, England

Civil Parish: Kyo
County/Island: Durham
Country: England

Street address: Catchgate
Condition as to marriage: Married
Occupation: Merchant Tailor

Registration district: Lanchester
Sub-registration district: Tanfield
ED, institution, or vessel: 11

George Marr 25
Catherine Murray 34
Charles Murray 55

Perhaps a better match in 1891:

Name: Catherine Murray
Age: 40
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1851
Relation: Wife
Spouse's Name: Chas
Gender: Female
Where born: Liverpool, Lancashire, England

Civil Parish: Bootle
Ecclesiastical parish: St John
Town: Bootle
County/Island: Lancashire
Country: England

Registration district: West Derby
Sub-registration district: Walton
ED, institution, or vessel: 13

Catherine Murray 40
Catherine Murray 10
Chas Murray 41
Chas Murray 4
Edward Murray 16
Mary A Murray 1
Mary Reynolds 60

FreeBMD shows no Charles Murray - Catherine Smith marriage 1860 to 1900.

Would this be Charles Anthony?

Name: Charles A Murray
Year of Registration: 1915
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Mother's Maiden Name: Cameron
District: Tynemouth
County: Northumberland
Volume: 10b
Page: 437

There's a possible marriage of a Martin Murray and a Janet Florence Cameron in West Derby in 1906. And a Flora A R Murray, mother Cameron, was born in Leeds in 1913.

Aha -- in 1901:

Name: Martin Murray
Age: 25
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1876
Relation: Brother (of the head of household)
Mother's Name: Catherine
Gender: Male
Where born: Birkenhead, Cheshire, England

Name: Catherine Murray
Age: 65
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1836
Relation: Mother
Gender: Female
Where born: Ireland

Civil Parish: Birkenhead
Ecclesiastical parish: St John
County/Island: Cheshire
Country: England

Registration district: Birkenhead
Sub-registration district: Birkenhead
ED, institution, or vessel: 24
Household schedule number: 94

Benj J Marsden 15
Catherine Murray 65
Martin Murray 25
Mary Murray 24
Patk Murray 27
Susan Murray 23
Wm James Murray 2

-- but no -- in 1891, his father is Martin.

In the next generation, there's this marriage:

Name: Charles Murray
Year of Registration: 1913
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Spouse: Esther Cohen
District: West Derby
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8b
Page: 786

Leading to this birth:

Name: Charles E Murray
Year of Registration: 1913
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
Mother's Maiden Name: Cohen
District: West Derby
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8b
Page: 1107

FreeBMD has no Charles Murray born 1916 at all. This could be because the transcriptions are incomplete.

Ah yes. I checked the images:

Charles A Murray
2nd quarter 1916
Middlesbro
vol 9d, page 945
mother's surname: Smith

Huh! That will be him -- with a mother who's a Smith.

A whole lot of Murrays married Smiths. You'd have to get the birth cert to learn the parents' names. That should help a lot.

That is, if you don't already know.

I should have asked first -- what was it you were wanting to know??
